Tourism & Recreation Planning

Tourism is one of the world's fastest growing industries. If developed properly, tourism can play a pivotal role in diversifying and sustaining local and regional economies. Zumundo provides a variety of tourism and recreation planning services to government and private sector businesses, including tourism assessments, opportunity studies, and development planning.

Climate Change Adaptation

Our global climate is changing, and will continue to change, in ways that affect planning and development activities. Despite our best mitigation efforts, climatic changes will affect our environment, economy and lifestyles in unprecedented ways. Rising temperatures and shifting precipitation regimes will have significant impacts on our availability and supply of fresh water and will also increase the risk of extreme natural events such as flooding, wildfires, and storm surges. These impacts will create challenges, particularly in areas dependant on natural resources. Zumundo works with local, regional, and provincial authorities to identify, assess, and prioritize actions to increase our resiliency to climate-related environmental risks.

Socioeconomic Impact Assessment

Provincial and Federal regulations require most developments to conduct an impact assessment to identify and mitigate potential environmental and socio-economic impacts of new projects. An often over-looked impact is the impact that new projects may have on local tourism economies, and nature-based recreation. Zumundo works with private developers, in collaboration with local tourism and recreation stakeholders, to identify impacts and outline mitigation options for addressing potential impacts to tourism, recreation, and other valued socio-economic components. Identifying and mitigating these impacts serves as a key step in developing a sustainable and locally supported project.
